Intelligent Light Control for Wimbledon’s Evolving Homes
Off-the-shelf blinds might seem like a quick solution, but bi-fold doors create specific challenges. They open, fold, stack, and move in ways traditional windows never do. A generic blind often ends up getting in the way or simply not doing the job well enough. Common issues we see include:
The real problem is that bi-fold doors need a system designed around their mechanics. Not something adapted after the fact. Even a small miscalculation in width or fitting can affect how the doors function day to day, which quickly becomes frustrating.
Wimbledon has a strong mix of property styles. Period homes with modern rear extensions are incredibly common. So are new builds with full glass walls leading to the garden. In both cases, bi-folds are often the centrepiece of the home, and whatever you install needs to respect the design as much as improve comfort.
When we design blinds for bifolds Wimbledon homeowners are considering, we look at more than just measurements. We consider:
A one-size solution just doesn’t work here. Every installation ends up being slightly different because every home behaves differently.
We install bespoke blinds in a variety of settings, including:
No matter the home, the goal is the same: effortless comfort and refined aesthetics.
Bi-fold doors bring the outdoors in; but without the right shading solution, they also invite in heat, glare, and UV damage.
According to the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and Energy Saving Trust:
That means bi-fold doors, while beautiful, can drive up cooling costs in summer and heat loss in winter, unless properly managed.
With Controlux blinds, you gain:
We offer a carefully curated range of high-spec blind systems, tailored for bi-fold door installations:
Perfect Fit Blinds: These clip directly into the door frame without drilling. A favourite for aluminium and uPVC bi-folds, they operate independently and don’t affect door movement.
Integral Blinds (In-Glass): Sealed between glazing panes, these are completely maintenance-free and ideal for contemporary extensions and new builds. Operate via discreet magnets or motorised controls.
Thermal Pleated Blinds: Featuring honeycomb-style construction that traps air, these blinds provide exceptional insulation while maintaining a lightweight, modern look.
Motorised Roller Blinds with Side Channels: Perfect for wide expanses, these blinds offer app or remote control, with programmable timers and smart home integration via systems like Lutron or Somfy.
Panel Glide Systems: Great for open-plan kitchens and large-format bi-folds. The wide fabric panels stack neatly and glide smoothly for flexible light control and striking visual impact.
Bi-fold doors are an architectural investment, but without the right blinds, their benefits can be compromised.
