At Controlux, we supply and install a wide range of Shutters in Richmond and surrounding areas of South London to suit all homeowners and their unique styles.
Whether you live in a historic Georgian townhouse near Richmond Green or a contemporary riverside flat, shutters offer a timeless, practical solution for controlling light, enhancing privacy, and elevating your home’s interior aesthetic.
At Controlux, we specialise in the supply and installation of made-to-measure shutters in Richmond, designed to complement the local architecture while meeting the highest standards of functionality and finish. With over 35 years of experience fitting premium shading solutions across Southwest London and the Home Counties, we understand that shutters aren’t just a decorative feature, they’re a lasting investment in your home’s comfort and value.
Richmond is known for its architectural elegance, leafy surroundings, and discerning homeowners. Whether you’re restoring a period home or upgrading a modern space, shutters offer a versatile, refined alternative to curtains or blinds.
A study by the English Heritage and Glasgow Caledonian University found that internal shutters can reduce heat loss through windows by up to 62%. In older Richmond homes with single glazing, this can lead to significant energy savings over time, especially when paired with draught-proofing and roof insulation.
Additionally, UV-filtering louvres in shutters help protect furniture, flooring, and artwork from fading, a valuable consideration in south-facing rooms or heritage properties with delicate interiors.
Shutters aren’t just practical; they must also harmonise with your property’s architectural character. Richmond boasts a wide variety of homes from Grade II-listed Georgian properties to modernist apartments along the river and each requires a different approach.
At Controlux, we carefully design and install shutters that enhance each home’s individuality:
For Victorian bay windows in St Margarets: Tier-on-tier shutters allow light through the top section while maintaining privacy below.
For Georgian sash windows near Richmond Green: Full-height shutters with narrow louvres preserve period detailing while improving insulation.
For riverside apartments in Kew: Café-style shutters offer light control with an open, airy feel, ideal for maximising natural light and views.
For modern renovations and loft conversions: Sleek, full-panel shutters in neutral finishes create clean lines and minimalist appeal.
This level of customisation is what sets Controlux apart from off-the-shelf solutions.
We offer a wide selection of bespoke shutters to suit every room and style:
Full Height Shutters: Classic and elegant, these cover the entire window and are ideal for bedrooms and living rooms. Add a mid-rail for flexible light control.
Tier-on-Tier Shutters: Two independently operated panels, top and bottom. Perfect for urban-facing windows needing privacy below and light above.
Café Style Shutters: Cover only the lower half of the window; a great option for ground-floor spaces in Richmond town centre or East Sheen.
Solid Panel Shutters: Traditional, full-coverage panels for maximum privacy and thermal insulation, ideal for period homes or bedrooms.
Tracked Shutters: Mounted on a sliding track system for bi-fold doors or wide window expanses. Popular in open-plan kitchen extensions.
Special Shape Shutters: Made to fit arches, circles, and gables, particularly useful for converted lofts and architectural features found in Richmond’s heritage buildings.
Our shutters are available in:
Hardwood: Lightweight and luxurious, ideal for wide windows or detailed finishes.
MDF/Composite: Durable, cost-effective, and ideal for high-humidity areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
Waterproof ABS: Fully moisture-resistant for bathrooms, wet rooms, and pool houses.
Custom Finishes: Choose from a vast range of colours, stains, or colour-match to Farrow & Ball, Dulux, or Little Greene palettes.
