Intelligent Light Control for Richmond’s Evolving Homes
Bi-fold doors have redefined the way we experience space in the home, connecting interiors with gardens, enhancing light flow, and encouraging indoor-outdoor living. But with expansive glass comes a unique challenge: how do you control light, privacy, and temperature without compromising design?
At Controlux, we specialise in crafting bespoke blinds for bi-folds in Richmond, built for homes that value form as much as function. With over 35 years of experience working across South West London and the Home Counties, we understand how to blend performance, precision, and aesthetics in spaces that deserve more than an off-the-shelf fix.
Bi-folds are not standard windows, and they shouldn’t be treated as such.
Whether you live in a modern Kew townhouse or a Victorian semi near Richmond Green, conventional blinds often fall short. Here’s why:
They offer inadequate privacy or insulation.
They sag, twist, or snag in door tracks over time.
They need constant adjustment as the sun moves.
They obstruct door operation and reduce usability.
What bi-folds demand is a tailored blind system, one that considers the unique mechanics of the doors, the flow of movement, and the architectural style of your home.
From listed properties in Petersham to eco-conscious riverside developments, Richmond’s housing stock is nothing if not diverse. That’s why a one-size-fits-all solution just doesn’t work.
At Controlux, we design made-to-measure blinds for bi-folds with attention to:
Whether you’re dealing with south-facing glass walls or minimalist rear extensions, we deliver blinds that are as considered as the architecture they serve.
We install bespoke blinds in a variety of settings, including:
No matter the home, the goal is the same: effortless comfort and refined aesthetics.
Bi-fold doors bring the outdoors in; but without the right shading solution, they also invite in heat, glare, and UV damage.
According to the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and Energy Saving Trust:
That means bi-fold doors, while beautiful, can drive up cooling costs in summer and heat loss in winter, unless properly managed.
With Controlux blinds, you gain:
We offer a carefully curated range of high-spec blind systems, tailored for bi-fold door installations:
Perfect Fit Blinds: These clip directly into the door frame without drilling. A favourite for aluminium and uPVC bi-folds, they operate independently and don’t affect door movement.
Integral Blinds (In-Glass): Sealed between glazing panes, these are completely maintenance-free and ideal for contemporary extensions and new builds. Operate via discreet magnets or motorised controls.
Thermal Pleated & Duette® Blinds: Featuring honeycomb-style construction that traps air, these blinds provide exceptional insulation while maintaining a lightweight, modern look.
Motorised Roller Blinds with Side Channels: Perfect for wide expanses, these blinds offer app or remote control, with programmable timers and smart home integration via systems like Lutron or Somfy.
Panel Glide Systems: Great for open-plan kitchens and large-format bi-folds. The wide fabric panels stack neatly and glide smoothly for flexible light control and striking visual impact.
Bi-fold doors are an architectural investment, but without the right blinds, their benefits can be compromised.
