Bifold Blinds to Fit Your Home

Precision Light Control for the Modern Kingston Home, by Controlux

Bi-fold doors have redefined the way homes in Kingston upon Thames connect with light, nature, and space. From period renovations along Richmond Road to new-build terraces in Norbiton and glass-wrapped extensions in North Kingston, homeowners are embracing bi-folds for their seamless flow between indoors and outdoors. But with expansive glazing comes new challenges: glare, overheating, lack of privacy, and energy inefficiency. At Controlux, we design and install custom blinds for bi-fold doors in Kingston that do more than cover glass; they enhance comfort, protect interiors, and elevate your living environment.

Why Bi-Fold Doors Demand Specialist Blinds

Standard blinds aren’t built to deal with the size, structure, and movement of bi-fold systems. Generic solutions frequently:

Obstruct door function or snag in tracks

Require constant manual adjustment

Sag or misalign due to width or movement

Fail to block glare or retain heat effectively

Bi-folds often span 3–6 metres, folding inwards or sliding across multiple panels. A successful blind solution needs to be structurally compatible, thermally efficient, and aesthetically unobtrusive. At Controlux, we treat every bi-fold system as a precision architectural feature, and our blinds reflect that standard.

Bi-Fold Door Blinds: What Makes Them Different?

Unlike traditional windows, bi-folds cover expansive areas and are constantly in use. This demands blinds that:

Fit neatly within or above the door frame
Allow full operation of each door panel
Offer tilt, open, and retract options
Enhance thermal and visual comfort year-round

We offer a curated range of blind types for bi-folds, all fully made-to-measure, motorisation-ready, and available in a wide variety of performance fabrics:

1. Perfect Fit Blinds

Clip into each door panel without drilling. Ideal for aluminium or uPVC bi-folds, especially where full panel movement is essential.

Pleated, roller, and venetian styles
Minimal disruption to sightlines
Great for child-safe, cordless installation
Excellent light control without visible hardware

2. Integral Blinds (Inside the Glass)

Permanently sealed inside double or triple glazing, operated magnetically or via motor.

Zero maintenance (no dusting or tangling)
High thermal insulation
Ideal for new bi-fold installations or upgrades
Ultra-sleek and tamper-proof

3. Duette® Thermal & Pleated Blinds

Honeycomb construction traps air, creating a natural insulation layer across wide glass panels.

Up to 46% improvement in window insulation
Available in sheer, dim-out or blackout fabrics
Great for garden-facing extensions or south-facing doors

4. Motorised Rolled Blinds with Side Channels

A smart, stylish solution for wider spans. Discreet housing, automated operation, and full integration with Lutron, Somfy, Alexa, or Google Home.

Smooth, whisper-quiet performance
Timer, sensor, or voice control options
Ideal for smart homes and design-led interiors

5. Panel Glide Systems

Elegant, large-format fabric panels that stack smoothly to one side.

Works well for open-plan spaces or zones requiring light layering
Choice of translucent, solar screen, or blackout fabrics
Perfect for multi-functional living rooms or flexible work/play zones

The Science Behind Our Blinds: Thermal & Visual Performance You Can Measure

According to the Energy Saving Trust and the Glass & Glazing Federation:

76% of solar energy entering through untreated glazing becomes unwanted heat
18–20% of a home’s heat loss escapes through windows and glazed doors
UV radiation can fade flooring and furniture in less than 12 months

Our bi-fold blind systems are engineered to:

Reduce overheating in summer by reflecting solar gain
Insulate during winter, trapping warmth inside
Preserve furnishings by blocking UV rays
Improve EPC ratings, lowering energy bills and future-proofing your property

We use materials tested to deliver thermal resistance (R-values), solar reflectance (Rs), and visible light transmittance (VLT), ensuring our solutions don’t just look good, they perform under pressure.

Why Kingston Homes Are Unique: A Design-Informed Perspective

Kingston’s architectural diversity, from Edwardian semis in Berrylands to glass-fronted penthouses near Canbury Gardens, requires a tailored approach to shading. Bi-fold installations here vary not just in size, but also in:

Orientation (e.g., south- or west-facing doors need enhanced solar control)
Frame type (uPVC, aluminium, or timber)
Room usage (garden-facing lounges, open-plan kitchens, garden studios)
Conservation area considerations (particularly in North Kingston or Fairfield)

This is why Controlux never uses off-the-shelf fittings. Every system is designed for your doors, your lifestyle, and your space.
